European Federation of the Psychiatric Trainees (EFPT)

There are a few international organizations of young psychiatrists and trainees. In Europe, European Federation of the Psychiatric Trainees (EFPT) is an example of a well defined organization of trainees and closesly collaborate with the Psychiatry Board of the European Union of Medical Specialist (UEMS).

European Federation of Psychiatry Trainees (EFPT) has currently 20 member countries and 1 candidate country. All member countries meet regularly on annual forums. Country representatives on the EFPT forums are usually delegated by their national association of psychiatry trainees and/or young psychiatrists, depending on the structure of a national organization of a particular country. Each country is represented be 2 delegates, but each country has only one vote. For earning a membership status, each country must have a delegate on at least two consecutive EFPT forums. Croatia became a full member on the EFPT forum in Gotebörg, 2008. The forum is held in the country which is represented by the current president of the EFPT. The present EFPT president is Amit Malik, from United Kingdom, where the next annual forum 2009. will be held. The current president elect is Martina Rojnic Kuzman, and is expected that the annual forum in 2010 will be held in Croatia.

In many countries worldwide, there are national organizations – Sections of young psychiatrist or trainees that operate as a part of their mother National Organizations which are members of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA). In Croatia, WPA member is Croatian Psychiatric Association (Hrvatsko Psihijatrijsko Društvo HPD). WPA launched the “Program to Promote the Development of Professional Young Psychiatrist", aiming to develop a network of professional and scientific cooperation of residents and young psychiatrist. Residents and young psychiatrist may attend this program in a role of congress fellows or national representatives, forming a Young Psychiatry Council (YPC). YPC representatives are usually representatives of their national associations, who are elected for 3 years. The current representative of the Section is Martina Rojnic Kuzman, the past representative was Igor Filipčić.
